Rome’s ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone)

The ZTL is the area in which car traffic is restricted inside of Rome. For certain hours of the day no car traffic can enter certain areas of the city, unless the car has a special permit allowing it. The signs on certain streets, which say VARCO,  mark both where the cameras are and if they are active (VARCO ATIVO). Mopeds (motorini), motorcycles and bicycles are excluded.

If you are renting a car and driving into the city, contact your hotel to find out if they are in the ZTL and if they can get you permission to enter. They also may have advice on the nearest place to park and unload your luggage.

During certain times (Holidays, certain traffic conditions) the ZTL is not active and it may not be active is every area. Check our website to find out if it is.

Here is the map of the daytime ZTL.
